Think about the movie I AM LEGEND.
Will Smith’s character is completely alone in the world
and everyday he calls out on the radio,
searching for someone,
anyone.
He yearns for a relationship with someone.
So much so that he creates relationships with the abandoned store mannequins.
Without relationships, who would we be?
Would there be a point to living every day?
Without relationships, how would be find lasting Joy?
I love reality tv because its all about relationships.
Granted, many are dramatic and negative,
but nonetheless it is still a relation between two people.
Watching reality tv shows allows us to observe relationships
outside of our family unit.
One of my favorite relationships to watch
is between Bethenny Frankel and her husband Jason
on Bethenny Getting Married/Bethenny Ever After.
They have a very mature, adult, yet humorous relationship.
It’s so FUN to watch!!!
On the other hand, the relationship between Sammy and Ronnie
on The Jersey Shore is just plain scary.
They have my definition of an unhealthy, roller-coaster relationship
with jealousy, lack of trust and disrespect for one another.
Chelsea and her baby daddy from Teen Mom 2 is another sad relationship.
I dont know how such horrible words could come out of a mouth,
yet in the next sentence they say, “I love you.”
Love begins with respect,
so what they have, does not represent my view of Real Love.
I guess my hope is that people with unhealthy relationships in their family unit,
could perhaps watch a healthy relationship and reflect upon their life
and make a change.
And people with healthy relationships,
can maybe view the unstable relationships with gratitude,
thankful to have enough self-respect
to never allowed someone treat you badly.
That’s why I love reality tv.
Here are my favorite reality shows:
(obviously they change season to season!
sometimes my reasons for liking a show is to watch a particular person
or couple, not necessarily everyone on the show!)
1. Bethenny Ever After
2. The Bachelor/Bachelorette
3. The X Life
(of course i love this show, its follows the lives of 3 different couples!)
4. Teen Mom (1 and 2)
(i dont think this show is “glamorized.”
it clearly shows their struggles with working, school, and boyfriends!)
5. The Housewives of Every City haha
(especially the O.C. because of the below picture!)
6. American Idol
(its my first season watching… all because of J. Lo!)
(I realize television shows can and may distort relationships,
representing it in a way its not in real life)
