four eyes.

Meet Ryan.
He is my second set of eyes at weddings.
Occasionally when he cannot second shoot with me,
I am fortunate to have the help of other photographers in the area!
The purpose of this blog post is to help others
who want to second shoot weddings.
I have never second shot a wedding (!!!!)
so my advice is directly from my 3 years of main-shooting experience.
1. candids, candids, candids
While I have to get the “safe shots” most of the time,
the second shooter should always be shooting or ready to shoot candids at a second notice.
2. get creative, shoot at an angle opposite of the main shooter,
but be aware of your background
Many times, the second shooter’s photo and angle might be awesome,
but the background isn’t ideal.
No matter how awesome the photo is, if the background has unappetizing objects,
I won’t use the photo.
3. during the portrait session,
take photos of the bride and groom at the same exact moment the main shooter is.
This does not mean, put your camera down in-between shots,
what I mean is, if the second shooter clicks at the same time the main shooter does,
the subject’s eyes will be open and the expressions will be good!
Here’s the goofball himself:

Ryan is notorious for getting the most hilarious shots of me….
doing who knows what.
caught red-handed stealing the bride and groom’s bike:
